Hi! Tell us about yourself and how you got into model trains

I’m RhB Modell Spur N. Age 30 and from Japan. I got into model trains at 9 years old and made my first simple layout at that time.

In the model train world, I prefer building. Especially dioramas.

I have an Instagram account and a YouTube channel.

Please describe your layout

The theme of my layout is the Swiss Rhaetian Railway. I don’t focus on a specific epoch as I enjoy not only present day but also the past.

I choose Rhaetian Railway because I really like it. I like its trains and all the Swiss landscapes.

I have been working on the layout for about 3 years. It’s N scale, about 4.5 meters long and 2 meters wide.

If I could I would like to expand my layout because I want to make actual scenes on the layout. For example Landwasser viadukt, Filisur station, Alp Grüm, Brusio and so on.

I have previously made other model train layoyts. Started making layouts when I was a junior high school student.

How did you plan your layout?

My biggest inspiration was Rhaetian Railway in Switzerland, but I didn’t spend too much time planning. I usually make the layout while thinking about the plan.

But I knew from the beginning that it should be scale N. I enjoyed only N scale layouts from when I was a child.

When planning and building, I often see YouTube videoes. How to make diorama etc.

For my layout, I like the beautiful and very detailed models from N-Train by Mafen.

If I could change something in my layout, I would want to add more illumination. Because it is very hard to add illumination to the layout after you finish making scenery.

Describe your rolling stock

My rolling stock is both Japanese trains, European trains, and American trains.

My layout is analog and my rolling stock is built-to-run. I usually don’t modify and build myself. In the future, I plan to add more trains from Switzerland.

Advice for other people in the model train world

The best thing I have brought for my layout is the N-Train catenary 21721. It’s a little bit expensive but it was wonderful product, so I’m completely satisfied.

If I were new to the model train world, I would start making mini size dioramas and assemble many different layout plans. Over time, make a layout in your house and enjoy your model trains every time.

Also, remember that everyday is a chance to improve. To be better than you were yesterday.
